In Japanese folklore, the Bakeneko is a supernatural cat spirit known for its restless nature, unpredictable behavior, and ability to transform.
This artwork reinterprets the traditional yōkai as a figure that has reached a state of inner balance. Suspended in meditation above a cloud inhabited by small stylized kittens, the Bakeneko abandons its chaotic nature for a brief moment of awareness and calm.
Blending kawaii aesthetics, classic cartoon language, and Japanese mythology, the sculpture explores the contrast between instinct and control, movement and stillness, chaos and harmony.
The cat mask becomes a symbol of identity and transformation: behind every restless creature there is the possibility of finding a moment of silence.
Bakeneko represents that rare instant when we rise above our worries, disconnect from the constant noise around us, and simply exist in the present.
